63 year old, Kim (friendname: kimk27) has always known that she would get plastic surgery when she started to show facial aging. As soon as she saw her friend’s success with a facelift, she knew that it was time. Kim spent hours online, researching for the right doctor and facility and eventually decided on Dr. Carl Williams in Henderson, NV for his experience, credentials, and helpfulness. Kim prepared for her surgery by looking through Make Me Heal’s before and after photos and reading the doctor reviews. The hardest thing for Kim during her preparation was to quit smoking, which she had to do for at least 30 days. On February 26, 2008, Kim had a deep plane face lift and recovered beautifully with minimal discomfort. Her advice for anyone who’s contemplating plastic surgery is:

My final words of advice would be to do the procedures because you really want to, not for anyone or anything else. In my opinion, cosmetic surgery cannot bring happiness if a person does not have that feeling within them. It does not create self esteem if a person does not like his or her self. Cosmetic surgery only enhances the physical looks, and therefore enhances one feeling of happiness and self esteem. It will not give you what inner feelings, such as happiness, self esteem, and a good outlook on life if one did not have those feelings before the surgery, to me, it only enhanced the positive feelings I had before the surgery.”

Please join us for an interview with Kim:

Make Me Heal: When did you first have the idea to have your procedure(s)?

Kim: I have always had a curiosity about plastic surgery, and knew that I would consider it when I started to show facial aging. I knew I could keep my weight down and body fit through exercise and proper nutrition, but that I could not stop my aging face and neck. In 2006 I became very serious about finding a reputable plastic surgeon, and finances to have a face lift as my face was showing the signs of aging and so was my neck.

Make Me Heal: What were your motivations (physical, emotional, social, etc.) behind your decision to have the procedure(s)?

Kim: The motivation to have the procedures was that I knew it was time as I was already 63 years old. Then I saw someone who just had a facelift. Her lift was 10 days old, and she looked well and happy. Seeing a success story right in front of me, made me look harder for a surgeon. I live in a small town, and the search for a good Plastic Surgeon was not easy, and I knew I would have to travel and stay out of town to find a good Surgeon to get my procedures done.

Make Me Heal: How long did it take you to make a decision and was it an easy or difficult one to make?

Kim: After seeing the lady that just had the facelift, I made up my mind to find a good surgeon and have the face lift done. It made it easier to make the decision, as I realized that she too being from a small town, had to go out of town to have the procedure and that it all worked out well for her. That made it easier, as it is not an easy decision to make when it is elective surgery and one is putting herself at some risk. I knew it would be ok, if I researched and found a good doctor and facility. Knowing that I could do the homework/research made my decision making process easier.

Make Me Heal: Did your family, friends, and any other people in your close circle give you support, opposition, or did you make this decision without considering them?

Kim: I did tell my immediate family and 3 close friends. They were all supportive, but also concerned, as it is elective surgery. As I am over 3,000 miles from my family, there was some concern! No one opposed as they knew I had made up my mind and spent many hours searching for the right facility and doctor.

Make Me Heal: How did you research the procedure and come to decide on this particular procedure?

Kim: I had gone for a consultation in the state of NH when I was in my 40’s, so I knew I would have to do that after I narrow down a field of doctors, and facilities. I was familiar with consultations and seeing surgical facilities. I began with a local doctor in my town and was given names. I spent hours on the internet. I used the Make Me Heal website, and read all the facelift category. The good and the bad results. I used every tool that I found on the Internet. I got input from 2 ladies that had facelift. Both provided lots of dos and don’ts. I then went out on consultations, and kept speaking with my local doctor. This doctor was very helpful to me, as he was just starting out in cosmetic surgery and did recommend doctors that were more experienced than he was. They were all out of town, as I live in a small town and we do not have a good selection of Cosmetic surgeons.

Make Me Heal: Please discuss if you used any of Make Me Heal’s resources such as the message boards, pictures library, doctor directory and doctor reviews, and any recovery and preparation products that you used.

Kim: As I mentioned in #5, I most definitely use the Make Me Heal’s Resources. My friend that just had the face lift posted her pictures on the Make Me Heal Website. I used the pictures library, doctor’s reviews. I did not use any preparation or recovery products. I relied on my own good health for my recovery.

Make Me Heal: How did you come to choose your doctor?

Kim: I only had 3 consultations. I made many phone calls and sent many emails. I had to find a good doctor at a price that I could afford. Finances were a big factor for me. So I narrowed down to the prices that were within my reach, and then came the struggle of finding the right doctor. I was fortunate when I called Luna Cosmetics. I had a consultation with them. They gave me a list of the doctors that are affiliated with them. They quoted me a price and put it in writing. They gave me 30 days to research their Plastic Surgeons and to accept their proposal. I researched by calling the Medical Board of Nevada and the Medical Board of Arizona. Dr. Williams has excellent credentials. He is a Diplomat in his field, and has many Board Certifications. I accepted their contract. Luna coordinates the surgeon, the Surgical Center and financing. They provide many services in the Cosmetic Field. I made reservations at a local hotel located near the surgical center, as I was told that I would have to spend 7 days in Henderson NV after my surgery. Dr. William’s nurse, Sandy Harvey, came to the hotel everyday to check the drains, washed my hair, and changed the bandages. I was allowed to go home on the 7th day.

Make Me Heal: Please discuss if you have any role in deciding the type of technique used for your surgery by the doctor, incision placements, implant brand, anesthesia type, etc.

Kim: I did not have a decision in deciding what type of anesthesia. Dr. Williams only will perform face lifts under general anesthesia. He does not want the patient to move or start talking during the surgery, that is why he uses general anesthesia. He showed me what he wanted to do, and it all seemed like it was what I needed to have done. I was told the surgery would take between 4 and 5 hours under general anesthesia.

Make Me Heal: How did you prepare for the surgery?

Kim: The hardest thing to do was to quit smoking. Dr. Williams will not operate on a smoker. I had to be smoke free for 30 days. I lost 15 pounds before I quit smoking as I knew when one quits smoking one gains weight, so I made sure I was at least 5 + pounds under weight. It took me 100 days to taper off cigarettes and loose the weight. I increased my daily walk from 1 mile to 2 miles, I bicycle 3 miles and weight lifted. I had been walking and exercising for a few years, so I just increased everything in order to attain better physical strength. It is not a good idea to loose weight after a face lift, this should be done before. Loosing weight after a face lift will only bring about new wrinkles!!! especially at my age where the elasticity of the skin is not as good as it was a few decades ago. I had this procedure done out of town, so I did have to have a friend stay with me for 2 days. She drove me to the surgical center and back to the hotel. As my family is so far away, I gave them the hotel phone number, and of course I had my laptop if they wanted to reach me, I made arrangement for a pet sitter to take care of my 2 old cats. I was told to stop taking Vitamin E, Fish Oil, Aspirins 7 days before the surgery. I had to get a RX of Keflex antibiotics for after the surgery, and some pain killers.

Make Me Heal: How were you feeling the night before the surgery and on the moments before the surgery itself?

Kim: The night before the surgery, my friend and I went out to eat at the Red Lobster. I think I ate like it was my last meal. I had lobster, shrimps, clam chowder and desert. Went back to the hotel, and took care of some emails. I did have thought of, what if: I die, what if I come out worst than I went in, what if the anesthesiologist screws up. Things like that went through my mind. Then I prayed that it would all turn out according to God’s will. I also believe that I was born on a certain date, and that I will die on a certain date. Surgery could be the means for me to die. Whatever, I do not have control over the moment or the manner of my death. So I just went to sleep and we had set 2 alarm clocks to wake me up. The alarm clocks went off and I got up and went for the surgery. I told the anesthesiologist that he better not screw up, and to make sure he could wake me up! I last remember saying a prayer for my doctors and went to sleep. I was in surgery for 4 hours and 20 minutes under general anesthesia.

Make Me Heal: How was the recovery process? Please discuss what side effects you experienced? What were the worse parts of the recovery? Did anyone help you during the recovery?

Kim: The recovery process was not eventful. There was some discomfort because I had 2 drains for about 3 days. I had some swelling, a couple of bruises, lots of stitches and my head was wrapped as you will see when you look at my pictures. After the surgery, my friend drove me back to the hotel. I went to bed propped on pillows in sitting up position and slept. When I awoke, I had a pizza and soda, and dozed off. The next day I had normal meals, the nurse came to the hotel and washed my hair and checked all the sutures and the drains to make sure all was well. All was well. Day 3 my friend went home and I was on my own. The nurse came to the hotel and took out the 2 drains. I promptly got dressed and put a little makeup on and took myself out to eat as you will see in the pictures in my album.

Make Me Heal: Please discuss the pain or discomfort you experienced during the recovery?

Kim: I DID NOT experience pain during my recovery. Only discomfort because of the drains and bandages. I did not take any pain pills. Not a one. I had a prescription for pain pills but did not use it. I only took the antibiotic Keflex twice a day.

Make Me Heal: How well prepared were you for the recovery from physical, emotional, and mental respects? Did you do any research (i.e. online, books, message boards, etc.) to make your recovery smoother?

Kim: I was prepared physically for my recovery, as I have exercised for a long time, I am properly nourished, as I am a believer of good diet and not too much junk food. I have taken vitamins daily for many years. Even though I was a newly ex-smoker, the doctor and nurse were impressed by my fast recovery and wound healing. Emotionally, I prepared myself, by having a good outlook on life, looking forward every day to camouflaging my battle scars and going out to eat. I took pictures of my progress and email them to my family and friends on a daily basis. I always give myself something to look forward to even if it is just taking pictures, and going out to eat. Mentally, I did not take any pain killers, so my mind was sharp and I did not feel any withdrawals or depression that comes with taking pain medication. As I was out of town and stuck in a hotel room, I went to the hotel gym after they removed my drains and used the treadmill and bicycle, then I played Texas hold’m tournaments on line at night. I talked on the phone to family and friends, and before I knew it, a week went by and I was told I could go home. I drove myself home and went back on a weekly basis to have the many stitches removed.

Make Me Heal: What are your top recovery tips to other patients?

Kim: The recovery tips I have to offer:

1. get in good physical shape

2. be well nourished

3. have a good outlook on life

4. Stay away from drugs, as in pain pills.

5. Acquire patience, as it takes a good 10 days to be pretty again!

Make Me Heal: How long did you take off from work? What did you tell your co-workers about taking this time off? Did anyone notice your cosmetic procedures at work and what did you tell them if they asked about it?

Kim: As I am 63, I am retired, so I did not have to deal with work issues. I do belong to some organizations, and I just told them I was going away for a while, would be back in a couple of weeks. To say that the people that were not real close friends noticed the surgery, I would say no as the outcome of the surgery was very natural and not plastic looking. They would take a second look, but nothing was said. The closer friends did notice, and if they did not already know, I told them what I had done. My friends and family were getting pictures on a daily basis, so it was no big deal. All the remarks I got were positive. My 87 year old mom was very impressed. She had my kid sister print and frame one of my pictures!!! The one taken 30 days after the surgery.

She has it in her living room.

Make Me Heal: How happy are you with the results?

Kim: I am very happy with the results. I was told that I would need the new Fraxel Re:Pair laser resurfacing because I was 63 years of age when I got the face lift, and they can only stretch the skin so much. I did have the fine lines left around the mouth and eyes. The wrinkles were gone. I did schedule the laser Resurfacing 6 weeks after my surgery. Fraxel Re:Pair is a newly FDA approved in late 2007 laser. I did have that done by Dr. Williams. The recovery from the laser was a bit more uncomfortable than the face lift surgery. I did not take pain pill, just the antibiotic. I am very happy with both procedures, Dr. Williams and his staff, and Luna cosmetics.

Make Me Heal: How has your makeover impacted your life from personal, social, career, and other respects?

Kim: The makeover, in my opinion has not really impacted my life as that is not the reason why I wanted the makeover.

I wanted the makeover, because I did not feel old mentally or physically, my body is in good shape, but my face had lots of wrinkles and looked older than the rest of me. My wanting it had something to do with vanity also. I did not do it to change my social life, as my social life is just fine. I am retired, so not for a career. I did it just because I wanted my face to match the rest of me. I am basically a happy person. Now my face does not look old and tired anymore!!

Make Me Heal: Would you have done anything differently if you had the chance?

Kim: No, I would not do anything different. The doctor is excellent, the surgical facility was wonderful, the hotel I stayed in worked out real well and Luna Cosmetic did a good job of coordinating. For me, it was a pleasant experience. I would do it over again with the same people. It was a pleasant adventure.

Make Me Heal: What is your final word of advice to other people considering the procedure(s) you had?

Kim: My final words of advice would be to do the procedures because you really want to, not for anyone or anything else. In my opinion, cosmetic surgery cannot bring happiness if a person does not have that feeling within them. It does not create self esteem if a person does not like his or her self. Cosmetic surgery only enhances the physical looks, and therefore enhances one feeling of happiness and self esteem. It will not give you what inner feelings, such as happiness, self esteem, and a good outlook on life if one did not have those feelings before the surgery, to me, it only enhanced the positive feelings I had before the surgery.

Make Me Heal: Was Make Me Heal beneficial to you along your journey?

Kim: Make Me Heal website was beneficial to me and still is after the surgery. It is good to see the pictures and comments. I was impressed with the pictures of a lady in her 60’s on your website. I basically searched out pictures of people in my age group, as when one is older, results will be different, as I have had the wrinkles for a long time. I wanted to see the outcome of other people in my age bracket, to be sure that it would be worth it for me to go through the surgery and the expense, as I would not want to go through elective surgery and not get results.

Make me Heal was very helpful in my decision making. I saw on Make Me Heal that there was hope for these old wrinkles I use to have!

Benefits Of The Nonsurgical Face Lift

Benefits Of The Nonsurgical Face Lift

By: Liz Forgey

Isn’t the face the most important part of your body? People are identified and recognized by their faces. Our face makes a big part of our individuality. When we get older, often the first signs of aging can be seen in our face. The face is important to us but a face lift surgery is a frightening idea for most people. What if something goes wrong?

Not every surgery can be successful, and even if it is, the outcome of facelift can not exactly be predicted. One thing is sure, you may not only look younger but you will also look different. Some patients can not handle the different look and don’t feel comfortable with their new face. That’s why, and also because of the risks of a surgery, many look for nonsurgical face lift methods.

What are the options for a nonsurgical face lift? One is called thermage. It has the ability to help your skin to use the collagen more efficiently. Energy of radio frequency is used to heat the collagen. The skin starts looking younger because the skin gets tighter. A thermage should be used as soon as you see the first signs of aging. The older your skin becomes, the less effective this treatment will become.

Another way of non surgical face lifts is the laser face lift. The energy of the laser tries to improve the quality of the outer skin layers. Similar to the thermage, the laser heats the collagen and tightens the skin. The effects are immediate but for best results you should repeat the procedure two or three times over the next months. Here again, laser face lift works best to treat the first signs of aging when the skin beings to sag.

What else could you do to avoid a surgery? There is also the so called bio-ultimate or microcurrent face lift. Your skin looks better because it gets stimulated by gentle electric currents. Skin activity improves, even the skin muscles are stimulated. Another option you have is trying one of the many face lift creams that contain amino acids. They also help to tighten the skin.

The final option you have is the so called thread face lift. It is very effective but comes near to a surgery but is much less invasive. The cosmetic surgeon makes every small incisions and inserts threads. By using these threads the doctor can tighten the skin and achieve very good lasting results. The thread is invisible and the little scares should be invisible as well. The advantage of this method is that it also shows good results once you get older. It is also much more cost effective than a real face lift surgery.

Face Lifting and Peeling

Face Lifting and Peeling

By: Juliet Cohen

Face Lifting is a plastic surgery for removing wrinkles, sagging flesh, etc. from the face. It is largely concerned with the bodily surface and with reconstructive work of the face and exposed parts. SMAS (superficial musculoaponeurotic system ) manipulation is a common approach to face-lifting, and appropriate modification of the SMAS can produce long lasting esthetically pleasing results. SMAS rhytidectomy begins with the creation of a cheek skin flap. The SMAS is handled in a number of ways. This technique tends to be a very safe approach to face-lifting as the SMAS and sub-SMAS structures are left intact. Baker popularized the lateral SMASectomy approach. Baker’s technique is also very safe as the facial nerve is protected by the parotid gland in the area of SMAS resection.

More extensive SMAS management is obtained by creating a limited SMAS flap or an extended SMAS flap. The SMAS flap is created in addition to the skin flap, and is separately repositioned. As face-lift approaches multiplied and became more complex, patient desires changed. Younger patients began to seek cosmetic surgery and trends toward less invasive approaches to facial rejuvenation developed. A number of face-lift alternatives and adjuvant procedures have been recently popularized. Cosmetic medicine disposes of a technique to treat problematic areas without these disadvantages. This method represents an achievable and efficient solution for an increasing number of people who want to obtain a natural result without surgical operation or general anaesthesia.

For the patient with primarily soft tissue ptosis and little skin redundancy, the use of percutaneously placed suspension sutures is an option. The newest facelift techniques can lift, restore and rejuvenate the face and produce a more long lasting. The surgery is done in the operating room and typically takes 3 to 6 hours. Blue spots can appear on people who are sensitive to such spots. It is also possible that light pain stimuli arise during the first days. Try microcurrent facial rejuvenation or facial acupuncture; both help your body promote production of collagen and elastin. There actually is a new procedure out there for lifting skin without major surgery. It is called the contour thread lift. This procedure does work, has tiny incisions in the hair bearing scalp and serves a key function in rejuvenating the face.

Face Lift Alternatives – Do They Work?

You have probably watched one of the popular reality makeover shows where average looking individuals undergo plastic surgery with amazing results. Their once tired, sagging, wrinkled faces become fresh and youthful looking right before our very eyes. This concept works well in the land of Hollywood. However, the reality is that face lifts are very expensive and often require a painful recovery period. They can also have devastating results if not performed correctly. The good news is that many face lift alternatives exist today.

For instance, face lift tapes are designed to be placed along the hairline invisibly anchoring the strings along the center of your skull or back of your head. The results are supposedly instant and painless, but you need to make sure you have enough hair to hide the tapes. Having a tighter looking face with pieces of tape sticking out of your head will completely defeat the purpose!

Non-invasive procedures such as laser facial rejuvenation, Botox injections or chemical peels are also widely available. None of these methods require an anesthetic or lengthy recovery period, but they may result in some discomfort. They may also require multiple sessions which can prove to be quite costly. You should consult with a plastic surgeon or dermatologist to discover the pros and cons of each method.

Other creams or exfoliants are meant to moisturize the skin and remove the dead skin cells. This results in a smoother, younger looking look. Companies such as Hydroderm specialize in products that produce quicker, more painless and less expensive results than traditional facelifts. Their product line includes wrinkle reducers, exfoliating facial cleansers and moisturizers. The key is sampling various types and brands until you find a product that is within your price range and produces favorable results.

The bottom line is you will need to experiment to discover what product works best for you. You must keep in mind that the notion of an “instant miracle facelift” in a bottle is unrealistic. Nothing will completely prevent the normal process of aging. However, the continued use of some of these products may allow you to lie about your age a little longer…

Rhytidectomy (Face Lift)

The patient’s face should be elevated to determine which areas are most wrinkled, sagging and unattractive. The procedure may then include a forehead lift, cheek lift or neck lift. Any excess fat in the neck can be removed at the same time, by either suction or scissors. The level of dissection may be as deep as the facial bones. The surgeon must have a complete knowledge of the branches of the facial nerves because inadvertent section would result in paralysis of the part supplied by this nerve.

While the surgery can be accomplished under local anesthesia with adequate preoperative sedation, some surgeons prefer to use supplemental intravenous or inhalation anesthesia as well. If that is the case, there should be an anesthesiologist or certified nurse anesthetist in charge of the patient.

If the forehead lift is to be included, the incision extends across the top of the head from ear to ear in the shape of a crown; hence, the procedure’s other name, coronal lift. Some surgeons prefer to make the incision just below the hairline, especially in a very high forehead, because this part of the forehead is raised during the operation. Many people have deep frown lines between the eyebrows. For this reason, the muscles between the eyebrows are cut and a portion removed. The coronal lift is designed to accomplish four things: elevation of the eyebrows, removal of deep wrinkle lines across the forehead, improvement of crow’s feet and removal of deep creases between the eyebrows.

The incisions vary according to each surgeon’s preference. Some think that they get a better or longer lasting correction of the sag if the tissue overlying the parotid (mumps gland) and adjacent muscles is elevated and firmly sutured there, the excess being cut away or sutured behind the ear.

On completion of the surgery, some surgeons insert drains under the skin, which are attached to a gentle suction reservoir. Blood and serum are removed, leaving less bruising and less postoperative swelling. Some surgeons do not apply any dressings, while others use an around-the-head occlusive dressing.

Postoperatively there is some pain, especially in the muscles at the sides of the neck. It should be treated with some form of light narcotic. Each surgeon has a particular timetable for suture and bandage removal. The patient should plan on three weeks for recovery to the point of no bruising or swelling.

Of all the possible postoperative complications, the most common one is the formation of a hematoma (a swelling containing blood). This is most likely to occur in individuals who have untreated hypertension or uncorrected blood clotting factors and those who are taking aspirin who smoke. A large hematoma may lead to loss of tissue and infection. Smaller hematomas result in the development of heavier scar tissue, which may appear as a dimple or a lump that can take up to six months to soften. Other complications involve injury to nerves and changes in pigmentation. Loss of skin sensitivity may occur but gradually diminishes.

Non-Surgical Facial Rejuvenation

Non-Surgical Facial Rejuvenation

By: Brooke Seckel

Concern about facial aging, wrinkles, loose skin, sagging cheeks, jowls, and “turkey neck”, and other signs of advancing age is very common among the 40 to 50 year olds in the United States, both men and women. A startling 12.4 million cosmetic plastic surgery operations were performed in this country last year and estimates are that nearly half of them were to correct facial aging. Most of the questions I receive at my website http://saveyourface.com/whatsnew/index.php and http://saveyourface.com/askdoc/index.php are from patients who want to stop the facial aging process.

As the baby boomers reach their 50’s everyone wants to look younger but no one wants to have surgery. Most people do not want to have surgery especially if it is not for serious medical reasons.

However revolutionary advances in technology have made it possible for many people to reverse facial aging changes using new non-surgical facial rejuvenation techniques without having to undergo surgery.

This past Wednesday September 28, 2005, I spoke on a panel entitled Non-surgical Facial Rejuvenation at the meeting of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons in Chicago, Illinois. My topic was Botox®, the soft tissue fillers including Restylane® and Radiesse®, and the many exfoliative chemical peels using Glycolic, Lactic, and Salicylic acid. I came away from that meeting very excited and enthused about all the wonderful new non-surgical facial rejuvenation therapies that are safe and effective for patients today.

There are so many new non-surgical facial rejuvntion options available that the patient must understand exactly what facial aging change it is that they want to correct. Usually the patient just feels that their face looks older but cannot pinpoint exactly which facial aging change is causing concern. It is important to seek consultation with an experienced board certified plastic surgeon who understands all the options so that the correct option is chosen for your very unique face. I advise you to avoid doctors who only do one or two facial rejuvenation procedures and tend to push patients to have the procedure that he/she performs rather than customizing the procedure to the patient’s needs.

The various non surgical facial rejuvination opions available today include:

· Topical cremes, microdermabrasion®, and superficial skin peels with glycolic, lactic, and salicylic acid to produce exfoliation to freshen the skin and give it a youthful glow. These treatments also stimulate the skin to form new collagen to replace the old damaged aged collagen, and help rejuvenate the facial skin.

· Topical cremes, microdermabrasion®, lasers, IPL or Photofacial, and Fraxel® can be used to remove brown spots, pignent, blood vessels called telangiectasias, and rosacea from the facial skin. Pigment and blood vessels are a classic sign of facial aging and the non-surgical removal of these skin discolorations provides noticeable facial rejuvenation.

· Botox® can be used to relax the muscles of facial expression and remove crow’s feet, worry lines, frown lines, and bunny lines all of which are very early signs of facial aging. Botox® effectively removes these lines in most people for 6 to 9 months after a simple nearly painless injection.

· Deep facial lines called the nasolabial fold lines and marionette lines make the face look tired and old and coupled with the frown lines often make people look angry. New soft tissue fillers can soften the nasal-labial fold lines and marionette lines when they are injected into the skin beneath the aging lines. Commonly used soft tissue fillers are Zyplast®and Zyderm® - both made of collagen, Restylane®, Restylane Finelines®, Hylaform®, Perlane®, Radiesse®, Artecoll®, Artefill®, CosmoDerm®, CosmoPlast®, Sculptra®, Fascian®, Cymetra®, and Isolagen®. Each of these fillers has different characteristics and are better for some facial aging changes than others. For a thorough discusion of fillers consult Chapter 7 “No Down Time Facial Anti-aging Procedures‿ in Save Your Face, available on line at http://saveyourface.com/BuyTheBook.html

· The final facial aging change to treat is loose sagging skin. While a plastic surgical face lift is still the “gold standard‿ for facial rejuvenation, several new technologies are evolving which can tighten aged facial skin. Titan® and Palomar Starlux LuxIR Fractional use infrared waves, and Thermage® and Aluma® with FACES® use radiofrequency waves, are all being used to heat the collagen in the deep layers of the skin called the dermis causing the collagen to shorten and tighten the skin. While these technologies are new and only about 30% effective and require multiple treatments, they will most certainly be improved in the future and effective skin tightening of aging facial skin will be possible.

Non-surgical facial rejuvenation is here and is getting more effective as new products come out every month. One of my common expressions whenever I speak about the new non-surgical options for facial rejuvenation is “plastic surgery is becoming non-surgical‿ and try to encourage my fellow plastic surgeons to embrace the new technology. I still believe that plastic surgeons are the best doctors to provide the non-surgical facial rejuvenation procedures for patients because they are the facial aging experts and they have the ability to do what is necessary for the patient whether it is Botox® or a face lift. Each face is unique and a “one size fits all‿ approach just does not work in facial rejuvenation. In my practice at the Adams Center on Newbury Street in Boston , my partner Dr. Bill Adams and I have 50 years of experience in Plastic Surgery between us and provide our patients with an honest opinion on the best options to rejuvenate their unique face.

Athena 7 Minute Lift Review - Does This Face Lift Cream Really Work?

Athena 7 Minute Lift wrinkle cream makes some bold claims, claims not measured in days or hours, but in minutes, seven minutes to be exact.

When a friend showed me a small jar of cream (she had already made a purchase), then asked what I thought, initially I was speechless, figuring she’d wasted her money and fallen victim to a hyped filled sales page, pictures of pretty models and the promise of eternal youth. Still she was my friend and was very sincere about wanting to reduce her laugh lines (she turns 38 next year), so I listened; prepared to jump in and show her the error of her ways; figuring the best thing I could do was help her get back her money, seems the company offered a 60 day free trial.

I called up the Athena 7 Minute Lift” website so I could see what she was raving about, then listed as she listed the points.

She sipped her coffee, smiled and talked about improving the appearance of her face (she looked fine to me) and hoping that the Athena 7 Minute Lift” would help her. I didn’t figure this was the time to burst her bubble; instead I looked at the site while she waxed on about the benefits…

Yes I said, I see they mention clinically proven results, but I countered with… “How do you know they’re telling the truth?” She wasn’t going to be put off that easily and asked if I’d click on the customer review button.

I did and saw 71 positive reviews. “Okay”, I told her, “I’m listening.”

I asked if she was still considering Botox injections, I was totally against this and she knew it.

“No… I don’t need to”, there was a smile in her voice. “Check out the FAQs (frequently asked questions).” So I did and I liked the fact the Athena 7 Minute Lift Company was not in favour of Botox either.

QUOTE: Unlike Botox”, Athena 7 Minute Lift is an all natural product that is applied topically and does not require painful injections. Athena does not contain any toxins, muscle relaxers, or harmful chemical ingredients.

I did like the sound of that and I watched a short video from “A Current Affair” that deals with aging and compares the various methods of improving your appearance and include Athena 7 Minute Lift as one of their suggestions. I’ve watched “A Current Affair” on multiple occasions and they seem like a stand up program, so my scepticism was beginning to soften a little.

So now she had my interest and I decided to dig a little deeper, both for my friend and me too (hey I’m not getting any younger). Athena 7 Minute Lift is comprised of 12 organic Greek essential oils, is animal friendly and safe to use on a daily basis. There’s a link to a detailed list of the ingredients on their site if you’re interested. Suffice to say that all the ingredients are completely organic and (speaking for myself) seem safe and natural.

Okay, so the product seems first-rate, what about the company behind it?

While I couldn’t find a financial statement, they seem to be carrying some very good credentials.

All in all it seems that while the Athena 7 Minute isn’t exactly the “fountain of youth” it has clinically tested results and seems to do exactly what is claimed. If you’re considering any type of wrinkle cream, Botox or even something more radical, I believe you might find Athena 7 Minute could be the best money you’ve ever spent.
