Face Lift Recovery

The time spent after a face lift is your recovery period. In most cases this is done in the comfort of your own home. It is important to note that during the recovery period, there will be a day or two of intense swelling over the face as there was a sufficient amount of damage and irritation cause by the pulling of the skin taught. Although the major swelling will subside after a few days, the puffiness may continue for another week or two after this period. It is normal and you should not worry too much about it.

Your surgeon will also give you a check list and a precautions list which entails in more details the procedures involved in your recovery time. In general however, it is important that you rest and stay relaxed during this time period. Any major emotional changes such as anger and even happiness can be materialized through your face causing even further irritation. This irritation can cause your recovery period to be extended some.

After a period of about 2 days, your surgeon will most likely permit you to use make-up. This is n important milestone as you will be able to feel more confident of going out side despite the bruising and swelling. Just remember that it is important to rest and relax so try not to make it a habit of going out everyday and exerting yourself to much.

Over the next couple of weeks you may have facial bruising brought on by capillaries in the face being damaged during the procedure but most if not all of these bruises will disappear with a couple weeks time. This is also the time that you will start to feel a bit more numbness across the face. Remember that during your face lift, the skin had been pulled tight and stress has been placed on not only the capillaries in the facial areas, but the nerves as well. This numbness too will subside after a few weeks time and you will soon be ready to go back to the surgeon to have your stitches removed. Your stitches will most likely be removed in between 5 to 10 days and is up to your ability to stay relaxed during the recovery period.

Staying relaxed will help speed up the process of recovery, it is nit uncommon to be ready to have the stitches removed after 5 days since the swelling went down and the bruising has started to fade.
